Bernard and Jonno’s side looked set to take maximum points back to Greater Manchester when Lucas Weaver struck into the far corner of the net after 85 minutes, but the hosts restored parity deep into added time to break the travelling Boro hearts.
One change was made to the side that played the first half at Curzon Ashton three days prior, Anthony Dudley returned to the starting eleven for the first time in 10 days as he took the place of our captain Nicky Adams, who dropped to the bench.
Early attempts by Matt Sargent and Michael Gyasi gave each side their first opportunity of the evening to break the deadlock inside five minutes, the former was blocked on its travels and from the following three-on-four counter attack, the latter couldn’t keep his curling effort down in the final third.
On the 10-minute mark, Radcliffe rued a big chance as Danny Greenfield’s clipped ball into the back post was knocked across goal by Scott Duxbury and Jordan Hulme couldn’t get the right connection to turn home. Possession then fall back into the feet of Duxbury on the rebound and he took aim, David Crook covered his near post by collecting at the second attempt.
Mateusz Hewelt was called into action twice midway into the first half. After wriggling past a number of yellow shirts, Gyasi gained a pocket of space to find Dan Jarvis and his weak shot was gathered by the goalkeeper, before denying Jarvis once again by catching well at his near post.
The first 45 was brought to a close by the referee with the scoreline all square, as the two teams reconvened momentarily to assess tactics and aim to open the scoring.
The Boro thought they had a golden opportunity to do so five minutes after the restart when Sargent played Hulme in for a one-on-one chance, but the linesman denied Radcliffe’s number nine with a swift offside flag.
Peterborough gained an opening of their own shortly after, and looked odds on to score when Oisin Gallagher slid the ball through for Kaine Felix who was denied by the fingertips of Hewelt down to his right-hand side.
Six minutes later, Sargent’s challenge on William Van Lier awarded the home side with a penalty and Gyasi rested the responsibility on his shoulders, but the German couldn’t grasp the opportunity with both hands as his low penalty was pushed away by Hewelt, and then saved on the follow-up from substitute Jonathan Bland.
Radcliffe introduced Tunde Owolabi, Mo Doro and Lucas Weaver to the pitch shortly after, and that decision proved to be a big one after 85 minutes when the Altrincham loanee scored his first league goal for the club.
Rick Smith’s long ball was brought down and held up expertly by Hulme before spreading the attacking play out to Weaver on the right side of the box, he then got the ball out of his feet and lashed into the far corner of the net in front of the travelling faithful.
The visitors looked set to capture all three points in the dying embers of the game, but there was still a twist in the tale as Peterborough levelled the terms deep into added time.
A long throw into the box was nodded away into the path of Bland who recycled the attack by lofting back towards the area, straight onto the head of Gallagher to rise highest and guide home before sprinting into the direction of the Peterborough fans in celebration, ending the game with a 1-1 draw.
