Radcliffe picked up a point from the first match of this bank holiday weekend, after a 1-1 draw with Needham Market. Just 72 hours later, the fitness and conditioning built up in pre-season is put to the test, as the Boro travel to Edgar Street to face off against Hereford in search of our first points on the road on matchday five.

The Opposition

Hereford FC was born in 2014 as a phoenix club for Hereford United. Since reforming, the side won three titles in as many years as they reached the National League North for the first time in 2018/19, and from then, they hovered around the lower end of midtable, finishing 17th in their debut season in step two with a highest finish of 11th last campaign, just six points off the final play-off spot.

Hereford are yet to taste defeat in this National League North campaign, as Paul Caddis’ side have picked up eight points from the twelve available at this early stage. In their first four matches, the Bulls have scored an average of 2.25 goals whilst only conceding an average of 0.75.

In the 2023/24 season, Hereford won 11 of their home matches, losing only six making Edgar Street a fortress and a nightmare for any opposition to visit. In 2024, they’ve lost just three times when on home soil against South Shields, Boston United and Chorley.

Last time out, Hereford managed a 4-1 at The Big Help Stadium, home of Southport. The first half ended with the scores level at one-a-piece and continued that way until the 75th minute of the contest when Alex Babos scored twice before the 90th minute to secure the Bulls’ second win of the season, Andrew Williams then added a fourth in stoppage time.

Ones to Watch

Former Tottenham Hotspur U23 defender Aaron Skinner won Hereford’s Fans’ Player of the Season award at the end of his first year with the side. Originally signing in May 2023, the defender showed his class in Bamber Bridge’s run to the play-offs in 2022/23 and won the Player of the Season during his time in the North West. The level-headed defender can play across the back line and has the consistency required to perform at a high standard regularly, which will make him a threat to the Radcliffe attackers on Monday afternoon.

Hard working midfielder Alex Babos learned his trade with Derby County before he was sent out on loan throughout the non-league pyramid. After being a regular at Banbury United, the former Welsh U21 player contributed to the goals from the centre of the park in his first year with Hereford, as he finished as the club’s top assister and runner up in the race for the club’s top scorer. He will be a threat in the middle for Hereford on Monday.
