Radcliffe picked up their first win of the new season last weekend, as two goals from Jordan Hulme saw the Boro progress into the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup on the road against Warrington Town, setting up a tie with Bury at the Neuven Stadium.

With renewed confidence, Radcliffe welcome Buxton to M26 for matchday nine of the National League North campaign, aiming for a second successive victory.

The Opposition

Buxton travel to the Neuven Stadium off the back of an FA Cup Second Qualifying Round replay victory over Barwell. After coming back from two down in the first match to force a second leg, the Bucks found themselves a goal down at the break though were able to fight back in the second 45 yet again, in the end coming away 2-1 victors and into the hat for the next round.

The Derbyshire outfit have picked up 12 points from the opening eight league fixtures, with four wins from five games at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium. However, Buxton have faltered on the road with defeats at Peterborough Sports, Southport and South Shields. John McGrath’s side are yet to lose by more than a one-goal margin.

Since 1972, the two teams have met 12 times, with Buxton having won on ten of those occasions. The Boro’s one win came back in 1972, when hosting Radcliffe have not lost by more than a one-goal margin.

Ones to Watch

When given time and space on the ball Ethan Fitzhugh is able to cause trouble for opposition defences, with a good strike at his disposal as well if the opportunity arises. With one goal so far this campaign, the former Leicester City midfielder could cause problems for the Boro back line.

Three goals in his last two matches makes Buxton’s Italian striker Diego De Girolamo one to watch in this one. With over 100 competitive goals for Buxton, the number nine will be a handful in the final third. He currently has four goals in three matches against Radcliffe, including two from the penalty spot.

Last Time Out

When the two sides met in March 2022, the Bucks won 3-0 on their way to the Northern Premier League title as Diego De Girolamo scored all three goals at The Silverlands.

Buxton picked out the back of the net on three occasions inside the first half, as the league leaders extended the gap at the top of the table. De Girolamo’s first two strikes came from twenty yards out and found the roof of the net from the edge of the area, past a helpless Cam Belford.

The goal to seal the hat-trick was put away via the penalty spot as the Buxton forward converted after Jamie Ward was brought down inside the area.

Radcliffe were frustrated throughout the match and had few chances of note as Theo Richardson went relatively untested over the course of both halves.
