Radcliffe returned from a trip to the league leaders with a point that could have been all three if not for a fine stop from Scunthorpe’s goalkeeper late in the game, an afternoon that marked Bernard and Jonno’s 700th fixture in management.
Taking the positives from the game, Radcliffe will aim to build on the platform that we have created to work towards a first home victory of our National League North campaign.
The Opposition
Leamington’s early season success can be traced back to their strong home form, with an unbeaten run of 13 games at Harbury Lane, and can been tracked even further back to just two home defeats since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
However, the Brakes have been unable to replicate that impressive run on the road, with just six of their 23 points being won away from home so far this season. Whilst being second in the table based on home form, the opposite sees them sat at 21st.
With three defeats, Leamington have struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just three goals in seven matches with only Marine having found the net on less occassions. Tuesday’s visitors have not dispatched two or more goals on the road since March, a run of 11 matches.
Last time out, Leamington managed to record a 2-1 victory over 20th-placed Peterborough Sports. Two goals from Callum Stewart secured the points, as the forward nearly had a hat-trick but was denied by an offside flag, and a last minute consolation goal did little to change the final outcome.
Ones to Watch
Described as one of the hottest properties in Midlands Non-League football, 22-year-old Callum Stewart is the main danger to the Radcliffe goal on Tuesday night. The striker currently tops the division’s scoring charts and has the joint most goals in both step one and two. In Leamington’s promotion campaign, Stewart finished as the side’s top scorer with 22 goals.
George Ward is another man that Radcliffe will have to be wary of in this one, the 23-year-old defender has the ability to play across the backline and is able to restrict the attacker’s time on the ball. A new face at step two, he has taken life a Leamington like a duck to water and has managed to get himself on the scoresheet on three occasions.
