For the first time since October 2023, Radcliffe have the opportunity to achieve four consecutive league victories as we welcome Marine to the Neuven Stadium, looking to continue our positive run of late.

Radcliffe’s return to form has coincided with Jude Oyibo and Regan Riley’s return to fitness as well as George Glendon’s addition to the midfield, and while not looking too far ahead, the Boro could move up to 17th in the table with a win if Scarborough Athletic fail to pick up all three points against Leamington.

The Opposition

Much like ourselves, Marine have had a tricky start to life in the National League North for the majority so far, Neil Young’s side has occupied one of the bottom four spots for almost all of the campaign to date.

However, two recent positive results against Rushall Olympic and Kidderminster Harriers have given the Merseyside outfit a path to exiting the drop zone on Saturday. A singular point could be enough to leapfrog Needham Market, who currently occupy the 20th spot in the table.

The Mariners have struggled for goals throughout the season, with only Warrington Town scoring fewer. Marine have found the back of the net on multiple occasions in only nine of their 33 matches, and that number drops to just three when playing away from the Marine Travel Arena.

Ones To Watch

Chris Doyle scored his second and third goals of the campaign on Tuesday night in Marine’s victory over ten-man Kidderminster Harriers. The 30-year-old centre back brings a lot of defensive qualities to the Mariners back line, and he will be one to look out for.

Leigh Whelan has been a bright spot for Marine in the heart of their midfield this campaign. Occupying mostly a defensive role, the 23-year-old has two goals and two assists to his name this season, and counts Chesterfield, Matlock Town and Guiseley amongst his former sides.

Last Time Out

5th October 2024 – Marine 1-0 Radcliffe

When the two sides met at the Marine Travel Arena, Radcliffe were situated at the foot of the table and still without a win. The hosts weren’t much better off with just one win from their opening nine matches, however.

Unfortunately for the travelling Boro fans, the game’s only goal came in the 35th minute in favour of Neil Young’s men. A long ball forward from James Butler was fired across goal by Adam Thomas, with possession falling perfectly for Kristi Montgomery to volley into the roof of the net.

The goal came just minutes after Brad Roscoe went close to putting Radcliffe in front. The defender’s nodded effort flew agonisingly over the bar with a free header via Callum Rowe’s corner.

Radcliffe grew into the second half, but the hosts remained stubborn and denied the visitors any clear sight at goal. Deep into stoppage time, Finlay Sinclair-Smith missed a chance to secure the points as the forward’s strike ricocheted off the crossbar, but it wouldn’t affect the game’s final score.
