Radcliffe travel to the league leaders this Saturday, with the aim of disrupting the title challenge for the former EFL side.
Despite poor home form so far this campaign, eight of the ten points Radcliffe have picked up have been won away from home, and will need to do the same this Saturday.
The Opposition
After falling short at the first attempt to climb out of the National League North, Scunthorpe are one point better off after 14 games but have a much better defensive record at this stage of the season. The Irons have only conceded more than one goal in a game on just two occasions, but have failed to win either of those two matches. Quite unbelievably, Ross Fitzsimons has kept as many clean sheets as times he has had to pick the ball out of the back of his net.
Scunthorpe have also got a potent attack, with three players already having five or more league goals in the first 14 matches. The highest number of goals scored is aided by a 6-0 win over Farsley on Tuesday night, but does little to change the fact that they are scoring almost two goals a game, whilst conceding less than one on average.
Radcliffe travel to the Attis Arena with Scunthorpe United in the midst of their worst run of form this campaign, with two wins in the last six matches in all competitions. Whilst coming off the back of an emphatic win over Farsley Celtic, recent draws against Oxford City and Chester as well as defeat at Southport offers hope to a struggling Radcliffe side.
As November begins, Scunthorpe have only lost three league matches at home, all 1-0 and only once on a Saturday. The stats well and truly confirming Radcliffe as massive underdogs going into the match.
Ones to Watch
Danny Whitehall is the division’s third highest goal scorer with seven, behind only Leamington’s Callum Stewart and Spennymoor Town’s Issac Fletcher. The talented striker scored 21 goals last campaign and has four goals to his name in his last three appearances, including a brace on Tuesday night.
As previously mentioned, Ross Fitzsimons has had a stellar start to the campaign with eight clean sheets to his name and currently leads the league in the statistic. Last campaign, the experienced ‘keeper had 22 shutouts in 46 matches, meaning he now has 30 in 60, a very impressive 50% clean sheet record.
