Radcliffe are one of two sides still searching for their first win of the campaign heading into matchday eight, after a disappointing midweek display against Spennymoor Town. The Boro now visit the west coast as we face off against Southport, looking to right our wrongs of late.
The Opposition
Southport are two-time champions of the National League North, having won the division in the 2004/05 and 2009/10 campaigns. Following relegation from the National League after finishing 23rd in 2017, the Sandgrounders have been mid-table or lower in each season since, other than an 11th-place finish in the 2020/21 campaign.
Last year, Southport had a tough start to the season which led to Jim Bentley taking the helm with the side on one point from the first six games. A turn in fortune saw the former Rochdale manager win the November manager of the month award, as his side went on to finish 17th in the table.
So far this season, Southport have picked up ten points from their first seven matches with wins against Buxton, Alfreton and Needham Market, as well as a point against Farsley Celtic in midweek. Of the ten points currently on their tally, seven of them were picked up in front of their home support having scored and conceded eight goals in four matches at the Big Help Stadium, which is the eleventh best home record in the division.

Ones to Watch
Marcus Carver returned to Southport for his fourth spell with the club after leaving to join Hartlepool United in League Two and Scunthorpe United in the National League. The striker has scored 35 goals in 84 appearances for the Sandgrounders, though is yet to score this campaign, he still remains an ever-present danger going forward for Saturday’s opposition.
Tom Moore has been a regular in Southport’s defence at the beginning of this campaign. Last season’s Player’s Player of the year at Bury has made a solid start to life in a new division, and will be an important element of stopping the Radcliffe attack on Saturday.
