On target in the second minute of added time, Matt Sargent was the hero for Bernard and Jonno’s side as the welshman netted from close range to seal victory, after a resilient display which saw Buxton dominate possession for large parts.

An unchanged eleven began the afternoon’s affairs on the back foot as Buxton came flying out of the traps with attacking intent. Most notably, Josh Popoola gained possession inside the Radcliffe box before wriggling into a pocket of space to strike, his effort was collected at the second attempt by Mateusz Hewelt.

The former Bournemouth youngster infiltrated another opportunity seven minutes later but on this occasion he couldn’t find the target, as his header from a corner bounced just wide of the left post.

Chances were few and far between for the two outfits in the first 45 minutes meaning the scoreline was goalless at the break, but there was plenty of end-to-end action to look forward to after the interval, starting with a huge turning point in the game which saw the hosts go down to ten men.

On the 57-minute mark, Brad Jackson wriggled past a number of yellow shirts with an excellent burst of pace before attempting to drive beyond Kieran Burton, the defender then made a poorly-timed challenged which was deemed to be a red card offence, giving Buxton a hill to climb in the final half-hour.

From the following set piece, Tom Walker curled agonisingly off target by mere inches and seven minutes later, Rick Smith provided a glorious chance for Josh Hancock to open the scoring but the 34-year-old was deemed offside as he attempted to tap home.

Anthony Dudley, Jude Oyibo and Luca Navarro all enter the fray in a triple change with 72 minutes on the clock, bringing much-needed energy to the final third looking to punish the home side’s ten men.

Those substitutes created a threat right from the off, delivering good opportunities into the box which couldn’t be converted by the fellow yellow shirts, but their patience paid dividends two minutes into the five added on at the end of the 90.

Danny Greenfield‘s quick free kick found Luca Navarro who let fly from range, his shot was then spilled into an area of uncertainty and Matt Sargent was on hand to prod the loose ball into the back of the net, snatching all three points at the death and sending the Radcliffe fans into euphoria.

That goal recorded our first victory at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium in nearly 53 years, and also secured back-to-back wins for the Boro as we head into three home games in a row coming up this week, starting with Chorley on Tuesday night under the lights.
