Three goals in the final 30 minutes sealed back-to-back 3-1 victories following Tuesday night’s triumph over Darlington, extending the unbeaten league run to seven.
King’s Lynn had the first big chance of the match as Michael Clunan cut inside from 25 yards, forcing Mateusz Hewelt into his first big save of the match as he palmed the ball away for a corner down to his left-hand side.
Another opening for the hosts to break the deadlock went begging as an inviting cross by Bailey Clements found Reece Hall-Johnson at the back post, but his header could only be placed over the bar.
Radcliffe struggled to get a foothold in the match throughout the first 45 minutes, and King’s Lynn continued to test the resilience of the Boro’s back line. Thomas Wilson lined a strike up from range which forced Hewelt into action once again, getting a hand to the strike to force a corner.
Radcliffe found some early momentum in the second half and some quick play from Dan Gardner and Michael Afuye created space for Rio Clegg to run at his man on the edge of the box, and following smart foot work to manufacture an opening, the striker struck goalwards and he could only put his effort over the bar.
The game began to become scrappy and Radcliffe stepped up under the circumstances, adapting brilliantly to continue the charge for the opening goal, which they later dispatched on the 66-minute mark.
Clegg won the ball on the edge of the area and was able to turn and take aim, and on the second attempt, Aaron Chapman stood in his way but the rebound fell kindly for Jordan Hulme who was waiting on the six-yard area to poke home to give the Boro a 1-0 lead.
Radcliffe threatened again as the Boro clipped a lofted pass over the top for Clegg in space, and the two-goal cushion was secured moments later. The 23-year-old spotted the goalkeeper off his line and lifted the ball up and over Chapman, chipping into the back of the net with a composed finish for his 11th of the campaign.
With their backs against the wall, King’s Lynn began to throw everything they had at Radcliffe in hope of starting a late comeback, and they managed to halve the deficit moments before the board was lifted to signal added time. A powerful ball was whipped into the back post and Gold Omatayo applied the finishing touch from within the six-yard box, bundling home to give King’s Lynn a late lifeline.
However, straight from kick-off, Afuye managed to win a foul in a promising area and Gardner whipped the ball into the box to find Lois Maynard who rose the highest and headed into the bottom corner for Radcliffe’s third of the afternoon, putting the icing on the cake.
Bernard and Jonno’s side held onto their lead to collect all three points at the Docherty Walks Stadium with a two-week break on the horizon, our next game being a home matchup with Chorley on Saturday 8th November.
