Jordan Hulme’s first-half finish was cancelled out by Adam Anson’s looping effort 11 minutes later, meaning there was a share of the spoils on the final day at the Neuven Stadium.

A positive start to the half was rewarded with 14 minutes on the clock when David Ball threaded the ball into the feet of Radcliffe’s top goalscorer, who cleverly flicked up before firing goalwards with an accurate effort beyond George Sykes-Kenworthy.

Moments later, Danny Greenfield’s through ball set Brad Jackson in behind but a last-man challenge by David Soladmi denied the wide player a clear opening before he could pull the trigger.

On the 25-minute mark, Radcliffe were left to rue their missed opportunity to make it two when Adam Anson’s unorthodox shot looped into the far corner of the net, restoring parity for the visitors.

A lack of chances for the rest of the half meant that the terms were level going into the interval, a classic last-game contest with little to play for followed after the restart, as both sides used all of their available substitutes in their final opportunity to gain minutes.

Welshman Matt Sargent came close to putting Radcliffe ahead again with a marauding run down the left before cutting inside and taking aim, his effort was blocked  on its travels and bounced into the path of Matty Carson who sent a teasing cross into the far post, Ball could only brush the side netting with his outstretched shot.

With just over 20 minutes remaining, Sykes-Kenworthy’s free kick manufactured an opening which would’ve been taken had it not been for the heroics of the Boro back line. Lewis Salmon touched down 10 yards out and his effort had to be stopped at the second Radcliffe attempt after Rick Smith’s block ricocheted goalwards, Hewelt palmed away before Anson’s rebound was kept out by the defender again with a headed clearance.

Alfreton ended the game brightly but they couldn’t take their final chances to end the season with a victory. Shortly after, the referee’s full-whistle concluded both the game, and Radcliffe’s first-ever season in the National League North as the Boro finished off with a draw.
