Following a narrow loss on home soil last time out, Radcliffe were beaten by Peterborough Sports in midweek action as Michael Gyasi’s brace and an own goal were enough to take three points back to Cambridgeshire.

Three changes were made to the starting eleven that couldn’t claim a result against Marine three days earlier, seeing Lois Maynard, Josh Hancock and Tom Walker regain their places amongst the side from the off.

Inside two minutes, the visitors were awarded a penalty as William Van Lier’s strike was deemed to have been blocked by the arm of Regan Riley, allowing the referee to point to the spot and Michael Gyasi sent the Boro number one the wrong way to snatch an early lead.

However, Anthony Dudley levelled things up for Radcliffe on the 21-minute mark. After receiving possession from Matt Sargent, the forward began wriggling past a number of orange shirts before burying the ball into the far corner of the net.

Moments after a chance for Dudley to seal his brace, Peterborough Sports got themselves in front for the second time of the evening. A throw in from the right-hand side was miscued by Scott Duxbury before bouncing kindly for Gyasi on the turn, his shot nestled perfectly into the side netting to give the visitors a one-goal advantage once again.

After the break, Walker looked to have restored parity for Radcliffe when he tucked away Dudley’s through ball beyond the Peterborough defence, but the linesman judged the former Salford City man to be offside when the margins seemed to be fine.

The Turbines weren’t satisfied with their slim lead and began to hunt for a third, and they didn’t have to wait long as an unfortunate error gave Peterborough Sports the breathing space they were working hard for.

Kaine Felix’s cross-field ball found Gyasi in space on the left side of the box, he then began marauding towards Riley before delivering across the six-yard area where Roscoe was placed to clear, but his touch could only bundle the ball into the back of his own net.

Radcliffe continued to soldier on in search of an unlikely comeback and opportunities for Maynard and Sargent either side of a double change were our best chances of finding a way back into the tie, but both weren’t clinical enough to grab a second goal.

Seven additional minutes were added on by the fourth official and despite the Boro’s best efforts to dispatch late on, the referee’s full-time whistle sounded with the scoreline at 3-1 to Peterborough Sports.

After three home fixtures in a row, Radcliffe return to the road this Saturday with our full focus turning to our next game against Rushall Olympic at Dales Lane.
