Goals from Michael Afuye, Danny Greenfield and Brad Roscoe continued the Boro’s positive league form with a 3-1 win against Alfreton Town at the Neuven Stadium.

Radcliffe started the quicker of the two sides and Afuye was finding a lot of room down his wing, the wide man took full advantage on the 26-minute mark when his whipped cross was delivered into a dangerous area, managing to evade the goalkeeper and find the back of the net.

The Boro quickly looked for a second and quick play from Rio Clegg provided space to play Greenfield through one-on-one. The goalkeeper came flying off his line but the 24-year-old was able to nonchalantly slot home for Radcliffe’s second of the afternoon.

Moments after Clegg struck the woodwork, a positive first half came to a close as the adverse weather conditions reduced both outfits to very little chances, with Radcliffe taking the opportunities that opened up inside the final third.

Alfreton’s first chance to half the deficit came from a free kick in the 53rd minute as a good ball was whipped into the box and found Max Hunt free at the back post, who could only put his header wide of the goal.

Brilliant play from Jordan Hulme forced a corner for the hosts which presented an opportunity to add to the two-goal lead on 57 minutes, and an inch-perfect set piece from Greenfield found Roscoe on the edge of the six-yard box who rose the highest to head home, leaving Coby Hewiston stranded and extending the advantage to three.

The Boro put their foot on the gas and attacked well once again down their left-hand side through Hulme who drove his way into the opposition’s box and made space for a shot, but slipped at the vital moment and the ball was cleared from danger.

With 69 minutes on the clock, Alfreton managed to get a goal back through Jediael Abbey who had the freedom of the box to pick his spot when an inviting cross found the former South Shields midfielder who converted from close range, despite Mateusz Hewelt’s best efforts to keep his clean sheet intact.

The Reds weren’t done yet as they continued to press for more success in Radcliffe’s half, dispossessing Dan Gardner before drilling a good ball across the six-yard area but to the Boro’s fortune, no Alfreton players were perfectly placed to turn home.

Deep into added time, Hulme chopped in and out down the right flank to create space for a shot which was blocked by an Alfreton body inside the six-yard area, drawing the curtain on any further openings as the referee’s full-time whistle sounded seconds later to conclude another buoyant league performance.
