Two second-half goals from Jordan Hulme wrapped up maximum points following an impressive display from Bernard and Jonno’s men, putting them back to winning ways in convincing fashion.

One change was made to the side that added a point to their tally against Rushall Olympic at the weekend, Josh Hancock was suspended after his first-half dismissal three days prior, and his absence was filled by Lois Maynard in a change of personnel in the Boro back line.

With six minutes on the clock, George Glendon netted his first goal in Boro colours with a clever flick from Scott Duxbury’s driven cross, after fantastic work by the defender down the left-hand side to create half a yard and deliver with outstanding accuracy, the former Chester man finished the move with an unorthodox shot into the far corner.

However, two minutes later the visitors were level. A misplaced pass gave Paul Blackett the time and space to pick his spot in a one-on-one chance against Mateusz Hewelt, and the league’s top goalscorer accepted the invitation with devastating conviction, slamming past the goalkeeper to even the terms.

This didn’t put the Boro down though, and only two minutes after South Shields restored parity, Radcliffe managed to get their noses in front once again. After receiving a cross-field ball from Duxbury, Tom Walker dribbled inside onto his favoured left foot before firing the ball into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box.

The away side seemed to have created a promising opening just before the half-hour mark as Kyle Crossley gained possession in a good position, but the linesman’s flag stopped the oncoming forward before he could pull the trigger.

Moments later, Duxbury swivelled on the spot to gain space for a delivery into the back post where Walker was waiting to pounce, his header looked to be nestling into the far corner but it bounced just beyond the wrong side of the post.

Radcliffe were happy to enter the break with a one-goal cushion and after a small period to recollect in the changing room, the Boro came out firing on all cylinders to extend their lead and score a third of the evening.

Duxbury was once again at the epicentre of the move, bypassing his closest marker to gain a couple of yards to spray an inch-perfect ball across the face of goal for Jordan Hulme to tap into the back of the net with a classic striker’s finish, the provider getting a hat-trick of assists in the process.

Not long after Glendon saw a good effort tipped to safety by South Shields shot-stopper Myles Boney, Hulme netted his 12th goal of the campaign to make it three in two games since his return to the side.

After pickpocketing Boney of possession inside the final third, our number nine had acres of space to drive towards an empty net and slide home before wheeling away in celebration to his left, ending the game as a contest with Radcliffe’s fourth.

To their credit, South Shields continued to apply pressure onto the Boro backline and had a couple of half chances to claw something from the game, but after all five substitutions were made by Bernard and Jonno, the extra energy meant it was comfortable for the hosts to see out the night’s affairs.

After four added minutes, the referee blew the full-time whistle to confirm all three points which moved Radcliffe up to 18th in the table heading into a tough test this weekend on home soil against Curzon Ashton.
