Radcliffe FC are pleased to announce the loan signing of Grimsby Town defender Matty Carson, until the end of the season.

Carson began his career as a youngster in the Liverpool academy at the age of six, before moving on to Burnley’s youth set up where he featured in the FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League.

Following his departure from the Championship outfit, the 22-year-old endured a two-year spell with Accrington Stanley, during which he joined Carrick Rangers, AFC Telford and Stalybridge Celtic on loan.

His performances earned him a move to Reading in 2023 where he racked up 17 appearances, marking his first-team debut with an eye-catching display away at Millwall in a 4-0 victory.

Carson joined League Two side Grimsby Town on a two-year deal ahead of the current campaign and went on to feature regularly in the first half of the season, most notably starting all of their matches in the Vertu Trophy.

Described as a left-sided defender with attacking intent who’s highly confident in set-piece situations, Carson arrives on the Non-League Deadline Day and will be looking to make his mark in Radcliffe’s final month of the season, wearing the number 20 shirt.

Our new signing won’t be available for selection at this weekend’s game against Oxford City, but he could make his Radcliffe debut when Scunthorpe United visit M26 on the 5th of April.

Welcome to the Neuven Stadium, Matty!
