Radcliffe FC are delighted to announce the signing of striker Rio Clegg, who joins on a one-year deal with an option at the Neuven Stadium.
The 23-year-old signs for the Boro following a successful season with Trafford in the NPL West Division, finishing as the league’s top goalscorer with 20 goals in 39 appearances.
Radcliffe’s new number 17’s goal-scoring record last campaign included three braces, numerous match winners and 14 goals in a 10-match spell between the end of January and mid-March, showing his keen eye for goal.
Clegg has also had spells with Elton Vale and Prestwich Heys, netting on 10 occasions with the latter, as well as Stalybridge Celtic and Hyde United, scoring a handful of goals for each in short stints.
Upon signing for the Boro, Clegg expressed his delight, as he said: ‘Joining Radcliffe was a no-brainer for me and I’m looking forward to testing myself at a higher level. I’m a player who works hard, loves to score goals and will leave it all on the pitch.’
Speaking about the signing of Rio Clegg, manager Anthony Johnson said: ‘He ticks a lot of boxes that we look for in the profile of a footballer. We first saw him two or three years ago and have watched how he’s progressed through the leagues.
‘Last season, he was the top scorer in the NPL Division One West, and it felt like it was the right time to bring him to the club. He comes with a great pedigree for scoring goals and is a great all-around player, and we hope he can grow with the football club over the next few years.’
Welcome to the Neuven Stadium, Rio!
